Heated clothing is a segment of the apparel, accessories, and footwear category that is about to hit its peak selling season in the Northern hemisphere. These pieces, which include battery-powered heating elements to keep people warm when spending long periods outdoors, represent a small portion of licensing deals within the apparel industry. But it is a sector of growing interest to some properties, especially in the sports and outdoors realms:
- Ororo announced last month that it had partnered with equipment supplier Bauer Hockey to create a Redline heated apparel and accessories collection, a first for the Bauer brand, targeted at hockey fans, coaches, trainers, and players worldwide. The four pieces in the collection include a men’s and a women’s heated vest, unisex heated-liner gloves, and a heated blanket. Ororo has also worked with individual NHL and NFL teams, including the Minnesota Wild, Boston Bruins, and Green Pay Packers, as an official heated-apparel supplier. Meanwhile, the company has become the official heated-clothing provider of the American Kennel Club, it announced last month, creating a limited-edition co-branded apparel collection, including heated vests for both human and canine competitors, as well as for fans. The pieces are available for purchase at select AKC events during the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
- Hyperice, a heating technology company specializing in recovery and improved muscle and joint performance, partnered with Nike for heated smart shoes and a heated vest for athletes, in a deal announced in December 2024. The pieces include massaging/compression technology as well as technology allowing automatic heating and cooling.
- ActionHeat paired with the NFL last fall, debuting heated jackets, vests, scarves, and seat cushions tied to NFL teams, designed for fans experiencing live games, tailgating, or outdoor watch parties. The licensed line serves a need, as more than 60% of NFL games are played in temperatures below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, according to ActionHeat. The products, the assortment of which varies by team, are sold on the ActionHeat and NFL online shops; at sporting-gear retailers including Dick’s, Fanatics, Scheels, Academy Sports, and Rally House, and at some stadium pro shops.
- Gobi Heat worked with the NFL’s Denver Broncos for two years, in fall 2023 and fall 2024, on limited-edition heated merchandise collections available at the team’s physical and online stores. This was a regional agreement predating the league-wide deal with ActionHeat.
- Fieldsheer has created heated apparel, accessories, and seat cushions with a number of collaborators, ranging from Meyer Shank Racing to the NFL’s Buffalo Bills, sometimes as an official supplier and sometimes as a retail licensee. The company also produces a variety of apparel with camouflage brands, including Realtree, Mossy Oak, and King’s Camo. In addition to heated clothing, Fieldsheer makes pieces with cooling technology, meant for outdoor activities such as hunting, where the temperature can fluctuate greatly from freezing at dawn to warm under the afternoon sun.
Grand View Research estimates the global market for heated jackets will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 7.2% from 2024 to 2030, powered by increasing participation in outdoor activities, more sports and celebrity endorsements, and the availability of a wider range of products.
